Romana 1 & 2

Romana 2 (Lalla Ward)
First appearance:Destiny Of The Daleks (1979)
Last appearance:Warrior's Gate (1981)
Guest appearance:The Five Doctors (1983)

A hundred and twenty-five year old Romanadvoratrelunder was quite naive having spent all her life on Gallifrey. She had just graduated from the Time Lord Academy and was quite the scholar.
Romana had been led to believe that she had been sent on a mission by the Time Lord president but this was not true. It was in fact The White Guardian, a powerful being that was outside and beyond the realm of time and space, disguised as the president.

When Romana disguised herself as Princess Astra of Atrios, the Doctor was uncomfortable with her walking around while wearing the body of someone else. He encouraged her to try to regenerate and she went through three other changes before finally settling once again as Astra, which is the form she kept.
Something of a technical expert, Romana even invented her own Sonic screwdriver which the Doctor tried to steal.
Her stint with the Doctor finally came to an end when she was summoned back to Gallifrey. But having travelled with the Doctor for so long, she found that she had changed and could no longer fit in with the ways of the Time Lords. And so she chose to stay in E-space, helping the Tharils escape enslavement.

A genius mathematician, Adric was also a petulant teenager. He first came into contact with the Doctor on the planet Alzarius.
The people of this planet believed that they were born from the survivors of a crashed starliner but they were really descendents from the planet's native Marshmen.
One of the Alzariun's sole purpose was to repair the starliner but there was a group that was against this course of action, Adric amongst them.
He eventually snuck onboard the TARDIS and begun his adventures with the Doctor and his companions. Although he was forever arguing with the Doctor, Adric gave his life to save planet Earth from being destroyed by the Cybermen.

After her father, one of the ruling counsuls of Traken, had his body stolen by the Master, Nyssa joined with the Doctor.
One of the many things that she did was to build a sonic booster to fight off an android after they landed in England in the 17th century, where they also encountered the Terileptils who had a plan to wipe out the human race.

Having no surviving family members and thinking that the Doctor had been killed by the Time Lords, Nyssa chose to stay on Terminus, which was a hospital planet for those suffering from Lazar's diesease, helping them by using her technical abilities.

On her way to her first day as an Air stewardess, Tegan stops when the tire on her car goes flat. Seeing the TARDIS and mistaken it for a real police call box, she enters. And so begins her journey as a companion.

After the death of Adric, the Doctor thought that Tegan would want to go home and so dropped her off at Heathrow. However they were soon to meet up again after she was taken by Omega, a renegade Time Lord.
When she is possessed by an old and evil intelligence called the mara, on the planet of Deva-Loka, Tegan is forced to take The Tardis to the planet manussa so that the Mara could take on a physical form. Tegan was now begining to merge with that of the Mara but the Doctor helped her to fight against it.

After an encounter with the Daleks, Tegan found that she no longer enjoyed travelling with the Doctor.

Vislor Turlough

Basic info-Name:Vislor Turlough (Mark Strickson)
First appearance:Mawdryn Undead (1983)
Last appearance:Planet Of Fire (1984)
Guest appearance:The Caves Of Androzani (1984)

Like the Doctor, Vislor had been sent to earth as an exile. He was soon recruited by The Black Guardian to kill the Doctor. When the Doctor welcomed him onboard the TARDIS, this made Vislor reject the commands of the guardian.

Peri Brown

Basic info-Name:Peri Brown (Nicola Bryant)
Occupation:Botany Student
First appearance:Planet Of Fire (1984)
Last appearance:The Trial Of A Time Lord (1986)

Having been rescued by Turlough from almost drowning, Perpugilliam Brown was taken onboard the TARDIS. She requested to continue to travel with the Doctor, even after having been involved in a battle with the Master on the planet Sarn.

When the Doctor and Peri were contaminated with spectrox toxaemia, there was only a small amount of the antidote left and the Doctor offered it to Peri, forfeiting his own life. This led him to regenerate but the new Doctor is much different from the one before. He is violent and abusive towards Peri and this has a massive affect on their relationship.

Whilst on the planet of Thoros-Beta, they meet with Sil, who they had met previously on another planet. When the mind of the Doctor is corrupted by an interrogation machine, it leads to him betraying Peri.
Her body is then taken and she is chosen to be the host of Mentor leader Lord Kiv. Meanwhile the Doctor has been taken by the Time Lords to stand trial for breaking the law of time and for interfering in the histories of other planets.
By now the intergration between Peri and Kiv has been successful but it seemed as though both had perished during a suicidal assault by Yrcanos. But this was not true as Peri and Yrcanos had actually survived. It had all be a ploy by the Valeyard.
The last we see of Peri, after being abandoned by the Doctor, is as warrior queen to the warlord Yrcanos.

Melanie Bush

She continued her travels until she took up the chance to stay with and reform the criminal Sabalom Glitz.

ACE

Basic info-Name:Ace
First appearance:Dragonfire (1987)
Last appearance:Survival (1989)

Centuries ago, the Doctor had imprisoned the evil Fenric, a being as old as time itself, in a flask and banished him to the Shadow Dimensions.
But Fenric was still all powerful and that power could be felt through time and space. Somehow he had manipulated 16 years old Ace into travelling with the Doctor by transporting her to Iceworld.
Recognising her as one of the wolves of Fenric, unknowing human carriers of Fenric's evil, the Doctor took Ace along with him in the TARDIS.

Ace's speciality was in making bombs and she often kept cans of deodorants in her bag containing Nitro-9.
When she and the Doctor arrived at a naval base in 1943, Ace met her mother as a baby, a woman that she always insisted that she hated.
With Fenric's Haemovores attacking the base, she insisted that the baby be taken to london to stay with her aunt, thereby creating her own future.

Grace Holloway

Basic info-Name:Grace Holloway (Daphne Ashbrook)
Occupation:Cardiologist
Guest appearance:Doctor Who-The Movie (1996)

After being shot by a street gang in downtown San Francisco, the Doctor was taken to hospital by the boy that the gang were originally after.
Ignoring his two hearts as a double exposure on the x-ray, the Doctor was not treated properly and he died on the operating table.
Later when a strange man turns up at her home claiming to be the dead man and with tales about the Master and the end of the universe, Grace at first believes that he is mad.
It is not until she enters the TARDIS, that she starts to realise the Doctor's stories are true.

With the Master pursuing the Doctor in order to take his body as well as his existence, Grace is killed. Because she had set the TARDIS so that it existed outside of space and time, the time machine was able to bring her back to life.
With the Master finally defeated, she refused the Doctors offer to travel with him, instead suggesting that he stay with her.

Rose Tyler

Basic info-Name:Rose Tyler (Billie Piper)
Occupation:Shop Assistant
First appearance:Rose (2005)
Last regular appearance:Doomsday (2006)

Turn Left
The Stolen Earth
Journey's End
(2008)

The Doctor first meets Rose when he rescues her from being attacked by the Autons, who are under the command of the Nestene Consciousness.
After saving him from the Nestene, Rose became the voice of reason for the Doctor even stopping him from killing a Dalek, as murder was the one thing that he was strongly against.

When two powerful alien forces, the Daleks and the Cybermen invade parallel earth, the Doctor figured out that they would have to be sent back through the void from where they came. Because both armies were covered with background radiation, if the rift was opened, it meant that they would be sucked back through before the rift coud be sealed. But the Doctor and Rose were also covered with space radiation which meant that they would also be sucked in.
To save Rose, The Doctor sent her to parallel earth with her family. But Rose was in love with the Doctor and returned to him even though it meant that she might never see her family again.
As the Daleks and the Cybermen were sent into the void and with Rose almost being sucked in herself but saved by her father, she found herself trapped on parallel earth.
But an even darker force was looming and Rose, now working with The Torchwood Institute, became involved in a project that would enable her to cross back to her universe and to meet the Doctor once again.
