| What is Postcrossing?
The essential idea of postcrossing is to send a postcard to a random person in the world. However, there's more to it than just a simple postcard. By sending someone a postcard (and keeping the art of sending postcards alive), you are brightening their mailbox - and possibly their entire day! You are also expanding their (and your) cultural horizons.
So... How Does It Work?
For each postcard you send, you will receive a postcard. Once you join postcrossing.com, you will be assigned an address somewhere in the world (if you're new to the site, you are allowed to send up to 5 postcards to start). After that, it's a waiting game. Keep your eyes out on your e-mail AND your mailbox. When you receive a postcard, you can add it to your profile page - and be sure to thank the sender once you get one! (Tip: When sending a thank you note, it is always nice to talk a little about what you liked on the postcard, etc.).
Is Postcrossing Safe?!
No worries! Postcrossing has been designed to keep your personal info, such as your address, secure. Your address isn't public; the sender of your postcard is the only one who can see it. However, keep in mind that you are putting your personal address up on this site, and Postcrossing won't be liable for any accidents. If you wish to stay even safer, consider using a PO Box or a completely different address.
