Something I have recently struggled with is memorization.
When I was younger, I went to a kid's church group called AWANA that focused on memorizing verses. Now, I am too old for the group.
My sewing teacher started assigning me passages to memorize as "pay" for a certain expensive project I was making. I finished the project (a quilt) and didn't have any more assignments from her either.
In the last month, I decided I needed to keep memorizing scripture. I picked the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7. I now am working on memorizing this passage.

3 Reasons for memorizing:
-When you are tempted to do or say something wrong, you can correct yourself with a verse about whatever it is.
-When someone asks you a question/you want to tell them something about you faith, you can use what you've memorized.
-If you are ever without a bible, you can still "read" it.

Tips for memorizing:
-memorize passages, not just verses.
-read the passage off to someone else.
-write or type it.
-read it before you go to bed so you recite it to yourself as you fall asleep.
-write the verse on a dry-erase board and erase one word at a time, continuing to fill in the blanks as you recite it.
Memorizing is important and doable!
Did you know that Fanny Crosby, a woman who wrote many hymns we sing today, was blind? When she was a child, her Grandmother helped her memorize BOOKS (!) of scripture. That is how she was able to read the Bible even without seeing it!! (This was before Braille. )
