It is very hard to grow in Christ on your own. That is what church is for.
Involve yourself in youth groups and surround yourself with friends who are also trying to live for Christ!
Testimony: I was invited by a friend to go to a girls' bible study at a local church. (It's called BRIGHT lights- look it up) I was very surprised by the girls there- they were truly trying to live for Christ. The lessons meant so much more because the girls a) wanted to be there, b) wanted to learn and c) wanted to help me learn. Since I've started going to BRIGHT lights I've learned so much. Now I can help the new new girls feel that way also.
Around this time last year, I was encouraged to start daily devotions.
Every morning now, I get up a bit earlier, read a few chapters of my bible, a page of a devotional and pray for 5-10 minutes.
It has blessed me in so many ways- God has taught me so much.
Tips to start devotions:
Put it first thing in the morning- God should be first. Even Jesus would get up early to pray.
Be alert and ready to learn. Sometimes I do a few jumping jacks to wake me up first.
Write down your prayers- not to reread, just so you stay focused on them.
Make a plan for your reading. If you read 3 ch. a day, you'll finish in a year. With 1 a day, you'll finish in 3 years.
Have a accountability friend. Someone to talk about your reading and encourage each other with.

"Your words were found and I ate them; and they were to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart" Jeremiah 15:16
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" Psalms 119:105
How to grow in Christ
This is a very personal, and often times difficult thing to do. Here is how I usually grow in Christ one step, on personality trait, at a time. Some of these steps are switched around sometimes.
-Realize your sin (e.g. not pure in heart, gossiping, complaining, stealing from God, etc). You could have gotten a rebuke (e.g. a teacher correcting something mean you said) or more indirectly (e.g. a youth group leader giving a lesson on the topic). Maybe you noticed it yourself, with help from the holy spirit, of course.
-Read your Bible! This also could be how you realized your sin. A certain verse may show you the importance of not doing this sin. Sometimes you search for the verse, and sometimes you come on it by "chance" (not really- God meant for you to read it).
-Pray. Spend a extra moment during morning devotions to say, for example, "God help me not gossip today".
-Work towards it. Constantly be reminding yourself to do right in whatever thing you're working on. Maybe an accountability friend will help here to.
Hopefully this helps! Remember to be constantly working to grow in Christ. It is very encouraging when others comment on your behavior, but God is also pleased with you.
Things I am working on:
Speaking with grace
Not arguing
Not gossiping

Things I have worked on:
Reading my Bible
Dressing modestly
Having a nice countenance
