Cricket was introduced to Sri Lanka in the 19th country flowing British colonization .
The earliest known match was recorded in 1832.
The national team, intially knowns as the ceylon national cricket team, gained Associate member status with the ICC in 1965.
Sri Lanka become the eighth Test- playing nation in 1981.
A major highlight was their victory in the 1996 cricket world cup, defeating Australia in the final.
