Sigiriya, also known as the Lion rock is one of Sri Lanka's most famous landmarks.
It is situated in Matale district near Dambulla town.
Sigiriya was discovered by the British Army Major.
Jonathan in 1831 .Sigiriya or Sinha Giri because of its structure.
It means.
The Lion Rock Sigiriya 12 200 meters high and there are 1,200 steps to the top.
According to the Sri Lankan history this fortress was built by king Kashyapa in 477 AD.
He built his place on the top of the rock.
Kashyapa built this fortress to project himself from his brother Mugalan.
He used Sigiriya as his kingdom it has a royal place, flower gardens, lakes, ponds, caves and lot of buildings still now we can see the ruins and the basement of all buildings.
History says there was more than so paintings in Sigiriya.
But now we can see only 22 drawings here.
these pictures are very famous.
People all over the world come this rock to see these paintings.
These pictures have a deep relationship with India Ajantha cave paintings.
Sigiriya has four 'L' shape ponds.
These ponds are connected with end.
