Temple of the tooth
Sri Dalada Palace is the palace where the Left Tusker of The Buddha is currently buried.
The present Dalada Palace is located in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Kandy was initially known as "Sri Senkhanda Sailabhidhana Sri Vardhanapura" during the Uparata Kingdom in the royal palace complex at that time. Sri Dalada Palace was first built by King Wimaladharmasuriya. The palace he built was destroyed by the Portuguese invaders. The old two-storey palace was built by King Sri Weeraparakrama Narendrasinghe. After that, even the Tamil kings of the Nayakkar dynasty, who came to the king, improved and protected the Palace of Sri Dalada.
Kandy, where the Dalada Palace is located, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Monks from both The Malwatta or Asgiri sect of the Siamese sect offer offerings to the Dalada every day. This puja is performed three times a day (morning, noon and evening). Nanumura festival is held as a special puja on Wednesdays. Smell here |
