| About the fur of my cats
My cats Fala and Nio belong to a breed called "Russian Blue". It was a naturally occurring breed exported from Russia. After it got almost extinct during World War II the breed was recreated. Russian Blues today must have emerald green eyes. They are categorized into three main types, none of them being from Russia. There is the British, the Scandinavian, and the American type.
My cats belong to the American type. The color of their fur is rather light and silvery and they are supposed to have slender figures, only Nio is a little plump.
The fur of the Russian Blue is not really blue, but rather grey, the Scandinavian type being of a darker anthracite color. What is most distinct about the fur of the Russian Blue is not its color but its texture: it is extremely rich and fluffy due to a double layer of a soft, downy undercoat and a guard coat of equal length. The silver tips of the guard coat make the fur shimmer ,
