What is FEOR?
The Forest at the End of the Road is/will be a animated web-series hosted on YouTube. The first season is about a group of year sevens navigating their new friend group and school, while simultaneously two year tens try to reunite with their dead loved ones via necromancy and paranormal investigation. Each season has pretty different plots, but focuses on the same ensemble cast.
How far in production are you?
Not that far in the grand scheme of things, but it has been a solid few years of work. More than a hundred episodes are planned out in detail, many screenplays are nearly complete, all characters are fully developed, and concept art is being drawn all the time. The logistics of how I'm going to create each episode have been mostly figured out, the animation is mostly going to be an animatic, similar to Pretty Pretty Please I Don't Want to be a Magical Girl, except with flat colours like most cartoons. The biggest problem I'm facing is how I can make this show fully voice acted. For me, this is the most expensive part of making a series, since it is the only corner I can't cut. I can write, direct, and animate the entire thing by myself, but I can't voice every character. Currently, I'm just trying to cross that bridge when I come to it, and focus on the writing/planning aspect now, then storyboards, then the animatic, then voice acting.
When do you think it'll be released?
Honestly, I'm a lot further in production than I ever thought I would be, and the scripts for series one should be complete within the next year, at the most. Once I've finished those scripts, I'll pause working on any others, and work on storyboarding and animating them. Then comes the problem of voice acting, which might take a lot of time to solve. I'm in Y12 right now, and (hopefully) I will be taking my A-levels next year, which means I won't have a lot of time to work on this project. If I get the results I need, and don't start to drown with work at university, I should manage to produce the first episodes around then. My "official" goal is to have at least the first 2 episodes released by the end of 2029, when I'm in my second year of university, but I might be able to manage a good bit before then.
What's it about?
It's a slice of life / coming of age story... mostly. It's set in the fictional village of Greenbridge, within the non-fictional city of Sheffield, in the north of England. Series one begins in September 2020, and the entire thing ends around 2029, without any large time skips. It follows a large ensemble cast, and has many different arcs, rather than one large overarching one. While most episodes are slice of life or adventure, there are some horror episodes, and the series also features quite strong language and mature themes. I would recommend the first part for ages 12 and up, but eventually the series will become more of a 15.
