Happy Sinhala And Tamil New Year

major cultural festival celebrated by both the Sinhala and Tamil communities in April.

It is linked to the sun's transition from Pisces to Aries, signifying the beginning of a new year and the end of the harvest season.

During this period, a multitude of rituals are observed. These include engaging in auspicious activities, lighting the hearth, boiling milk, performing religious ceremonies, communal eating, and visiting relatives.

A special feature is the preparation of traditional sweets like Kavum, Kokis, and Aasmi, along with discarding old clothes and wearing new ones.

Visiting relatives and New Year games are also prevalent during this time.

The New Year is an important festive season that strengthens family bonds and fosters harmony and peace.
