The state flag of Ukraine Blue means the sky and yellow means fields of wheat.

The official coat of arms of Ukraine is a gold trident that symbolizes the Ukrainian word “ÂÎËß” (“VOLITION“ in English).

Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. According to the legend, it was founded by three brothers, Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv, and their sister Lybid and named after Kyi, the eldest brother.

The Golden Gate, constructed under Yaroslav the Wise in the 11th century, was the main entrance to Kyiv.

Independence Monument is located on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kyiv.

National Flag Day is celebrated on August 23. The official ceremony of hoisting Ukraine's National Flag is held on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv. In 2015 the 60-meter blue-and-yellow flag was unfurled in the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk Region.

Independence Day is annually celebrated on August 24. It is the anniversary of the declaration of independence from the U.S.S.R. in 1991. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!

In Ukraine Christmas is celebrated on the 7th of January. Christmas is the holiday when all members of the family gather together. Ukrainian Christmas celebration begins on Christmas Eve on January 6. It is called ‘Sviaty Vechir’ (Holy Evening) in Ukraine. When the first star appears the family gathers to have supper.

People usually cook 12 meatless dishes.

A traditional Ukrainian Christmas dish is «Kutia». It is made of wheat, honey, poppy seeds, raisins and walnuts.

Christmas holidays are called "Koliada" and last from January 7th to January 19th. People dress as angels, shepherds, cossacks, Herod, Devil, warriors and others to go from a house to a house and give performances about the birth of Jesus. Also they sing Christmas songs called “Koliadky” We adore Christmas!
