MASAKA ORPHANAGE VILLAGE AND CHILDRENS
LEARNING CENTER
PROJECT MISSION STATEMENT;
Strengthen social support mechanisms to promote and protect the welfare of orphans
and other vulnerable children with the area of operation.

Project vision;
to ensure that with in 5 years of operation there is an enabling environment
for the poor and vulnerable groups or persons to develop their capabilities
and take advantage of opportunities to improve their livelihoods for a
gender-responsive
sustainable development.
. The population of Uganda is 26 million and is expected to double by 2025.

. the population growth rate is 3.4percent per year.
. the population is young with more than ½ below 18 years of age and only 2% about 65. .1/.5 of population is below 5.
. 25% of population is primary school age (6-12 old).

; POVERTY;
. 38% of the population lives in absolute poverty
. 62% of Uganda’s poor constitutes children (child poverty report0
. Other causes of poverty in Uganda;

1. Limited access band control of productive assets especially women.
2. Limited utilization of improved production technologies.
3. Large families.
4. Alcoholism.
5. Unemployment.
6. Lack of markets.
7. Inadequate opportunities for education
8. Under employment.
9. Lack of information.

HEALTH;
.Women and children bear a disproportionate amount of the burden of people living with diseases.
. infant mortality rate 88/1000 (Uganda demographic and health survey 2000/2001)
. Stunting as consequence of malnutrition in children less than 5years is 39%, which indicates that access to food is one of top concerns for children and the poor.

EDUCATION;
. Education as means of fighting poverty and reducing vulnerability is one of the top priorities for children.
. there is a decline in primary school retention due to high drop out rates.
. there main barriers to access and full participation of children in education include;

1. costs of scholastic and basic requirements
2. schooling
3. Disability
4. Living with disease
5. Early marriages
6. Teenage pregnancy
7. Heavy burden of household chores
8. Insecurity and poor nutrition
9. No meals at home or school..

HIV/AIDS;
. Approximately one million Ugandans have died as a result of AIDS.
. There is an estimated 2.3 million orphans.
Roughly 14% of children in Uganda less than 18 years old are orphans.
. Among those, 20% of children 6-17 years old are orphans
. Uganda’s infected population constitutes a massive potential for increasing the number of orphans in the country.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
. (There is lack of awareness, sensitization and high level of illiteracy in the project area.
. Increased number of school dropouts due to inability of their Guardians support them for further education and this has consequently resulted into increased number of street children..
. High levels of impoverishment due to lack of vocational skills, agricultural practices and techniques among others.


SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES;
. TO equip the needy children with knowledge and skills of education.
. To economically empower the children with skills and materials to enable them generate income and eradicate poverty at house level.
. To expose the orphaned children to lobby and advocate for them services

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION.

We have targeted population in this locality i.e., orphans, disabled and UN privileged children among others.

EXPECTED OUTPUT.
. To have 100 children being educated formerly ranging at the age of 5-15 years .after 7 years these will have benefited from this project.
. Improved healthy standards.
. Improved household incomes.
. Food security.
