Captain Jack Harkness

Rose and the Doctor first meet Captain Jack during WW2 when he tried to sell them a piece of space junk.
He turned to being a con man after the Time Agency had wiped out two years of his memory.
Jack was originally from the 51st century but his real name remains a mystery.
The Doctor at first mistrusted Harkness but later the two would become trusted allies.

It was Jack that led from the front when the Game Station was attacked by Daleks in the year 200,100 and he sacrificed his life to buy the Doctor more time to defeat them.
When Rose inadvertently looked into the heart of the TARDIS and became filled with the power of the vortex, she unknowingly made Jack immortal after bringing him back from the dead.
On realising this and thinking it unnatural, the Doctor abandoned Jack who then waited for 139 years to see the him again.
After he had transported himself back to earth with the use of his vortex manipulator, Jack joined the Torchwood Institute.

Micky Smith

Often derided as 'Micky the idiot' by the Doctor, Micky was Rose Tyler's boyfriend.
During the invasion by the Nestene consciousness, Micky was swallowed up by a bin and held captive, while a duplicate was made of him.
He did not warm to the Doctor at first, especially when Rose chose to go travelling with him and not stay behind.. Things were made worse for him when Rose, who was meant to be gone for only a short time, had in fact been away for a whole year. As her boyfriend, Micky immediately became under suspicion when it was assumed that she had gone missing.

After the Doctor and Rose returned, Micky used his technical skills to help fight off an attack by the Slitheen. When it was time for the Doctor and Rose to leave again, Micky who had at first refused the offer of time travel, now joined them. This led him to parallel earth where he saw his double murdered by The Cybermen. After their defeat Micky decided to stay to take care of his gran who was alive here but who had died back on earth.
He joined a band of fighters intent on stopping the cybermen, which would in time lead him back to his own universe.

Jackie Tyler

Single mum to Rose Tyler, Jackie was at first mistrustful of the Doctor when he first showed up with Rose, even slapping around the face when Rose had been assumed missing after being away for more than a year.
Jackie soon got a taste of adventure with her first trip in the TARDIS.
Having nearly been converted into a Cyberman and after facing the Daleks, Jackie settled with parallel husband Pete, who had previously died when Rose was still a baby


Donna Noble

Donna's first meeting with the Doctor was when she materialised onboard the TARDIS out of nowhere.
Unbeknown to her, her fiance Lance, had been lacing her coffee with Huon particles and it was those particles that drew her to the time machine.
Donna is not best pleased especially as it's her wedding day and accuses the Doctor of trying to kidnap her.
It is only much later that they discover that Donna is part of a plan by the Empress of he Rachnoss, a giant alien spider, to resurrect her hibernating babies. Donna is devasted to find out that Lance had been part of the Empress' manipulations of her.

When she was finally captured by the alien spider, it was Donna who halted the Doctor from going to far in defeating the Empress.
Once the Empress had lost her battle, vowing revenge on the Doctor, Donna refused his invitation to join him in the TARDIS. But it would not be the last time that the two would meet.

River song

River Song stands at a slight advantage when she meets the Doctor because she has had numerous adventures with the Doctor already but he hasn't met her yet.
At first he does't believe her but when she whispers his name, he becomes convinced that she is telling him the truth. River Song also carries around with her a little blue book full of 'spoilers' of their time and their adventures together but she insists on not letting the Doctor see what excatly is written in it.

They first meet in a library where River Song sacrifices herself for the Doctor by knocking him unconscious and then wiring herself up to the library's computer.
She ended up living on in a virtual reality after the Doctor found her sonic screwdriver and a neural relay hidden within it, which was put there by his future self. This contained a copy of her living consciousness which he then transfered to the library's data core.

River and the Doctor would still come to cross paths several times but in different timelines.


Martha Jones

When the Plasmavore, a blood drinking alien disguised as an elderly patient, hides out in The Royal Hope, the Judoon, intergalatic space police, transport the hospital to the moon, much to the surprise of medical student Martha Jones.
As the air from the moon began rapidly running out, it was Martha who gave her last breath to the Doctor in order to resuscitate him.
After the Judoon track down the Plasmivore, she sets off an MRI device that would destroy the minds of the people in the hospital as well as those back on earth. She is quickly despatched and the hospital is once more, transported back to earth.

The Doctor impressed with Martha's bravery and quick thinking, offers her one trip with him in the TARDIS.
However he soon changes his mind when she helps him to battle the Daleks as well as other alien beings, though he is unaware that she has developed feelings for him
After earth is invaded by The Toclafane under the command of the Master, Martha's family are kidnapped and made to do serve him, while the Doctor is kept in a cage and aged to his full age of 900 years.
Martha then spent a whole year travelling across the world, spreading stories of the Doctor, hoping to inspire them to aid in the downfall of the Master.
When the Master is eventually defeated, Martha realising that the Doctor doesn't feel the same way about her as she does for him, refuses his offer to continue travelling with him.
She is delighted though when the Doctor recommends her to UNIT where she becomes their medical officer.

Astrid Peth

Occupation:Waitress
Guest appearance:Voyage Of The Damned (2007)

Astrid worked as a waitress on Titanic. She had never visited other stars and planets but always had a stong desire to do so.
She almost got her wish when the Doctor offered her the chance to Travel with him but unfortuntely, Astrid sacrificed her life to stop the Titanic's owner, Max Capricorn from crashing the ship.

Jackson Lake

When an Infostamp containing the Doctor's information bacfires, all the data becomes downloaded in Jackson's mind and he soon believes that he is the Doctor.
As well as protecting the city from the Cybermen and the Cybershades, Jackson also has what he believes is a TARDIS, which is fact a hot air balloon and a sonic srewdriver which is just an ordinary tool. His companion is Rosita Farisi who he met after saving her life. Putting it down to his regeneration Jackson has large amounts of his memory missing.

When he finally meets the real Doctor, the two of them are able to piece together the missing parts of his memory.
Jackson is in fact a maths teacher who had arrived fron Sussex with his wife and young son. When he discovered some Cybermen, who had fallen through out of the void, in his cellars, his son was abducted and his wife killed.
After he had time to get over his dismay, Jackson set about helping the Doctor fight off the advance of the Cyber king and with his son recaptured, Jackson invited the Doctor to have Christmas Dinner with him, his son and Rosita. It was the first time that the Doctor had accepted such an invitaion.


Lady Christina De Souza

Bored heiress and master thief Lady Christina De Souza, boards the number 200 bus after stealing the Cup of Athelstan from the International Gallery in London. Onboard she meets the Doctor who she thinks is a bit strange but eventually helps him when the bus is sucked through a wormhole and they and the other passengers find themselves on the deserted planet of San Helios.
With the Doctor's intelligence and Christina's bag of tools, they must battle the deadly swarm and find their way back through the wormhole.

Once they land back on earth, Lady Christina asks the Doctor if she could accompany him on his travels. He flatly refuses. The last we see of her is when she flies off in the bus to evade being captured by the police.


Amy Pond

When the newly regenerated Doctor crash lands the TARDIS in 8 years old Amelia Pond's back garden, the two soon strike up an unlikely friendship.
After feeding the Doctor fish fingers and custard, Amelia tells him about the crack in her bedroom wall.
The Doctor goes to investigate and knows immediately that something is wrong. When he see what appears to be a giant eye, he quickly seals the crack.
Amelia is intrigued by the Doctor and is delighted when he offers her a quick spin in his Time Machine. However, when a bell in the TARDIS goes off, the the Doctor goes to sort it out, promising Amelia that he'll be back in 5 minutes.
She waits patiently in the garden, suitcase packed. But what seems like five minutes for the Doctor, becomes 12 years for Amy.

When they eventually reunite, a grown-up Amy having at first not recognised the Doctor, then becomes angry when she realises who he is. Not only had he not returned but her aunt, with whom she lived, as well as other people from her village had thought she was crazy when she told them about the Doctor. She tells him that because of this she ended up seeing 12 different Psychiatrists.
Before long she is soon helping the Doctor track down the escaped Prisoner Zero who the Atraxi are looking to capture and unless he is found, they will incinerate the planet. The Doctor then has 20 minutes to save the earth.
